Reverend Mother De Sales

(1940 - 1958)

Reverend Mother De Sales became the principal of the convent in the year 1940 and remained in office till 1958. She guided the destinies of the school in it's formative years and saw it's growth and recognition as one of the leading convents south of Colombo. Not only students from Dehiwala, but even those far away from Moratuwa came here to receive good all around education.

A strick disciplinarian yet Mother De Sales was just and fair, and an excellent teacher whose explanations were lucid and logical. Her religious knowledge classes were interesting and illuminating. The need for an all round education was realized by Mother De Sales and the curriculum was expanded to include, commerce and study of Pali in the Senior classes. The importance of the extra curricular activities was realized and Societies like the Literary Association, the Red Cross, A Film Club, Netball, Tennis, Badminton, Oriental / Western Dancing, Elocution and Singing were part of the school activities during her period.

Rev Mother De Sales was the embodiment of all these in full measure and we as recipients of her guidance academically or non-academically are able to lead richer, fuller lives due to her untiring efforts in the field of education. We thank God for giving us this privilege.
